Lisa Simpson, Chartered LinguistMy first encounter with a second language was in Brazil where, from the age of one, I was brought up bilingually speaking English and Portuguese. My French and Spanish were both learnt at secondary school and I went on to study Russian
with Spanish at the University of Exeter with extended periods of study in Minsk and Kiev, before continuing with an M.A. in Russian specialising in poetry of the Soviet period.
My career began in London working in the world of international commodity trading where I spent eight years as a manager in Shipping, Contracts and Finance.
In 1998, I left the corporate world to concentrate on full-time translation and spent 10 years’ working in France before returning to the UK in 2010 where I am now based near Exeter. I have a degree in Modern Languages from the University of Exeter and the postgraduate IoLET Diploma in Translation. I have also passed the ITI’s Translation Membership Exam as well as a number of stringent translation tests and exams for international organisations and European government bodies.
